It is Never too Early to Teach Young Kids about Responsibility and Independence.

Posted By: vie on October 5, 2009 at 7:14 am

Have you ever noticed your toddler try to button up his shirt or to put on his shoes? It actually sends signals to parents that he learns to be independent. Preschool or kindergarten also plays a part to teach young kids about responsibility and independence before they enter primary school. That’s true, going to school means that a child is responsible for his life, to be an independent person. When a child, 3+ starts to go to kindergarten or preschool, he learns to adapt his life into a society, apart from daddy and mommy.

I took clues from my child, a preschooler if she’s ready to help herself. Few months after she started her preschool, she told me that she could dress up by herself. I later found out from her that teachers encourage the young kids to learn some basic skills to care for themselves. I missed some points that it was never too early for young kids to learn basic life skills such as to care for themselves. Kids often surprise me. She told me that she learned some house chores and how to cook during pretend play at preschool. I just realized that structured play is not just a fun play but kids learn some life skills through pretend play, responsibility, teamwork and Independence during the play. Now, I am glad that she’s helping herself to get ready for school. I share house chores with my kids whenever they are free, especially during school holidays.
