Celebrity parent that I feature for this month is Jane Seymour. I must say that Jane Seymour is an actress with an amazing life and amazing talents. Jane Seymour is actually a given stage name. She has had a long acting career in television and movie since 1969 and she’s known as James Bond’s girl in movie Live and Let Die in 1973. Her notable achievement is  a Golden Globe award in 1996 for her role as Dr. Quinn in Dr. Quinn, Medicine woman.  She is not only an actress but she is also a writer and an artist.  One of her books is about her true pregnancy journey with twins Two At A Time: Having Twins – The Journey Through Pregnancy and Birth published in 2001. She discovered her talent in painting when she was hit at the rock bottom, the moment when her husband left her and made her bankrupt. Painting was a way of healing her depression and she has her own art gallery now.

Jane Seymour loves children and women. She supports non profit organizations for treatment and prevention of child abuse and women’s heart disease prevention.  Therefore, she is known as a star with a heart of gold.

How does her family life look like? She is a mom to 6 children with two of them are twins. To her, motherhood is the best experience and being a mother is the toughest job. There is no exact formula which teaches how to be a mom. You just have to go through it and unconditional love towards your kids does help your role as a mom.

Let’s take a look at her parenting style:

• No television, video games or computer games during weekday. She emphasizes on communication with kids. They read, talk, doing art project or building things before bed time.
• She lets her kids to learn by experiences and not by telling them what to do.
• She encourages music and art to her kids.
• She advocates healthy eating in the family. They prefer brown rice and brown bread. They grow organic vegetables in the garden and kids help them to take care of growing vegetables and fruits.
• They are active in sports as a family and encourage her kids to take up one sport for every season.

You may wonder what made she accomplish many things in her life and  she has a balanced life between a career and a motherhood. Her motivation comes from her near-death experience. She appreciates her life more and takes nothing for granted.

Although we are just parents, we can learn a lot from celebrity parents. They have some wonderful sharing about their parenting style and we can emulate their good parenting style.

In celebrity parenting this month, I highlight Celine Dion as a parent with her career as a superstar singer, actress, songwriter and entrepreneur. She published her autobiography My Story My Dream which was about her journey from poverty to riches. For me, Celine Dion’s songs mean love, strength and encouragement. She performed to sing The Power of The Dream which gave encouragement and strength to delegates at the opening ceremony of Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996. Her love song My Heart Will Go On for the blockbuster movie Titanic in 1997 won many awards as well as it won people’s hearts.

She started her parenting journey in 2001 when she took a career break from year 2000 to 2002. She gave birth to a son, Rene-Charles Dion Angelil through fertility treatment in 2001. She planned to have more children and the couples decided to keep her frozen embryo. Motherhood brought a new colour to her album titled A New Day Has Come released in 2001. The album is dedicated to her son Rene. She said, “Being a mom makes you a grown-up.”

In 2004, she and Anne Geddess released a concept album, Miracle which is CD and book multimedia collection. Miracle album is about the joy of welcoming babies. It  became the 11^th best selling kids album in 2000s.

From April 2009, Celine, 41 was trying to conceive a second child with her frozen embryo. She had 3 failed attempts of In Vitro Fertilization(IVF) and a miscarriage in August 2009. The IVF process was long and tough but she was strong and had a faith in life. According to her interview with PEOPLE magazine, she said that she would not give up hope and would try until it worked. She was a determined person not only in her career but as a parent. Her determination in pregnancy journey will be an inspiration for childless couples who shall not give up a hope for a child.

We know that Victoria Beckham and David Beckham are celebrities. I wonder how their parenting style is. Do they have time for their kids?  Victoria is a super busy mom and she switched her career from singing to fashion icon. And David Beckham is football superstar.  They still have a lasting marriage untill today and they are proud parent of 3 boys: Brooklyn 11, Romeo 7 and Cruz 5. When they are free, they spend their time with their kids.

Victoria is kind, generous and loving to her children. Victoria has learned to be a multitasked person with her career and motherhood.  She is a healthy eater who cooks for the boys when she is free. She teaches her boys about caring and sharing with unlucky children through her charity job. She knows how to live her life and always smiles. She said that her children, her husband and her work made her smile.

It is heartwarming to see the loving parenthood characters from David and Victoria Beckham although they have a glamour life as celebrities. They raise their kids well and it is truly touching how they teach their children to care for others. I hope that we will emulate their exemplary parenting style.

Learn from exemplary parents is valuable parenting resources for moms.  I talked about presidential parenting of Obama last month. This month, I look at Donald Trump as an exemplary parent. We all know that Donald Trump is famous for his reality show “Apprentice” and he is also a real estate Mogul. He is not only doing business well but he has raised his kids well too. You can see that his three eldest kids, Don Junior, Eric and Invaka are trouble-free and exemplary kids. They follow Donald Trump’s success and help him in his real estate empire. One thing that we often forget is to cultivate a sense of giving back to community in our children.

She applied techniques and skills at workplace into her home. Managerial skills such as conflict resolution, team building, multitasking, and delegation can benefit the kids as well as they learn to be an effective, responsible and independent person. 

Effective Parents
The most effective parents are like the most effective leader.  They nurture, encourage without creating pressure, expect the best without ignoring failures and learning from the mistakes.

Focus on the Big Picture
Focus on the priority and don’t get down to small details which are time-consuming.

Delegation
It’s okay to delegate to your tasks or house chores to children. Share your responsibility means parents will have more time and kids learn valuable life skills.

Find Time for Parents
Taking care of you is a priority. Find the time to rejuvenate yourselves or to unwind your stress will make you a better person and a better parent.

Before we expect our kids to perform their best, it’s time for parents to evaluate themselves. Are we learning to be the good role model for our kids? It is never too late to perfect our parenting skills even we have preschoolers or schooling kids at home.
