If someone had asked me that question few years back, I would have said: YES. But none asked me and none showed me how to do it. I had been a stay at home (SAHM) mom for 6 years. I used Internet only for emails, connecting with my friends, fun and information search. To break the comfort of being at home and to be able to work again, it really needs a strong will. I’ll share my experiences as a mompreneur. It may not be perfect but it can be learning resources for stay at home moms who wish to work from home.
Start Up Tips for Working from Home:
- Motivate Yourself. If you work alone, you may give up easily if things don’t work out.
- Decide what kinds of home based jobs you want to do: work independently for a company such as Multi Level Marketing (MLM) or start up a home business. You may consider your skill, expertise, your hobby or your passion to start up a home business.
- Willing to Learn Attitude. Because you work alone, you need to learn everything by yourself. I find Internet is great learning resources for moms like me. If you need a help, take Online Coaching to accelerate your learning. I’m taking Internet Business Coaching Online because it is easy, convenient and not costly compared to an offline workshop or course.
- Network with Moms. Let your friends know what you are doing and join moms networking sites to gain support and make new friends.
- Market Your Business Online. Online marketing is cheaper than offline marketing. You need to build a website and set up a blog to market your business. Do find the right Business Class Web Hosting to host your site.
- Find your uniqueness not copycat others.
- Educate your kids that you are now working from home and set DON’Ts rules. Kids, preschooler and above, will understand that mommy needs to work from home.
Do the tips sound hard for you? Yes, they do. But if you look at the benefits of working from home, the benefits outweigh the hardship.
- You are working at your own pace and you are working at something that you love to do.
- Freedom to work at anytime and at anywhere. Your Small Office Home Office (SOHO) is the best place to work from. You can set your flexible working hours.
- Self-esteem. Back to work brings you new skills and expertise. You will have a self-esteem and pride of what you’re doing.
- Your success depends on your work. When you’re working for a company, you need to cooperate with other people to get a result. I can tell you that not all people are cooperative. There are always good and bad people in the company. Sometimes the boss is not good or the subordinate aren’t cooperative.
- You become a multi-task person because you need to oversee everything.
- You earn an income. Your income depends on how hard and smart you work.
- Less stress. Home environment brings less stress. You can work while you listen to music or snacking. There are no arguments with colleagues or boss.
- Cost saving. You save on the building rental and staff costs.
- Your kids have your presence at home and they learn a real life situation from mommy working at home. They may lend you a help or you may find them imitate what you’re doing.
Finally, if someone asks me: what kind of home business is low risk and safe? My answer will be: Internet Business. It is a business with the low start up capital and you can work at home independently with no inventory.

Comments OffI mean here is a real cooking, cooking for the family food. I just find out that my kid, a preschooler can do a lot more in cooking than I ever think. She pretends to cook with her food toys, so why not introduce her to the real world of cooking. Cooking can be a new learning experience for the kids. I begin to involve her in the cooking preparation. I get a help, she is having fun and we engage in conversation during cooking. In her eyes, I’m the best cook though I’m not. I find that kids learn and benefit from cooking.
- Develop Fine Motor Skill – kids learn how to use their fingers to pull the vegetables. They are able to use the cutlery knife to cut the vegetables in pre-determined sizes or slice the raw ingredients.
- Adopt Living Skill – I see “able to cook” as a living skill when they grow up as an adult.
- Develop Learning – I include maths and science into cooking. Maths, kids learn to estimate the length of vegetables they should cut or pull. I involve counting and basic maths (addition and subtractions) by saying: I take away 2, how many are left? I add 2, how many do you see now? When she asked: when are the vegetables going to cook? I said: count until 50 or 100 and you shall see if the vegetables soften and change colors. Science, kids learn all kinds of vegetables and spices: the name, the texture, the fragrance or smell, the changes of vegetables after being cooked. This cooking experience will encourage kids to eat vegetables more. My kid usually wants to taste first after the cooking is done.
- Fun - Sometimes, we play guessing game during cooking. We take turn to ask questions. She asks question too, such as: what kind of fruit produces milk? and she will hard to guess when I ask: what veggie that has golden teeth and blonde hair?
- Pride - kids will feel proud if they can do adult’s or mommy’s job. Do remember to praise them for encouragement.
Besides kids benefit and have fun from cooking, you shall take safety precautions. I have my safety tips for cooking with kids:
- Set the rules for DON’Ts and let the kids know. Don’t use the kitchen knife, instead use the cutlery knife. Don’t turn on the gas cooker by yourself.
- The kids should wash hands before and after cooking for hygienic reason and do put the apron to protect their clothes.
- Don’t let the kids sample the ingredients before they’re cooked.
- Don’t let the kids handle the poultry, meat or raw seafood.
- Always supervise and check the kids’ work.
- Allocate short time period otherwise the child will get bored and overworked.
Apart from sharing my own experience with my kids, I also find interesting resources for kids, Kids Cooking Activities, to help your kid learn and grow in the kitchen. This e-book is from mom who compiled all her kids cooking lessons. So, they are tried and true. The cooking lessons are tailored to kids age group. Two great e-books Food Facts and Kid Friendly Finger Foods and Dips come with this e-book as a package.

Every woman has her own beauty secret and I’m sharing my beauty tips for moms. I would advise moms to care their skin and hair for a healthy and young look. Once I watched Oprah’s show about the beauty topic. She asked the beauty expert: What is actually the secret of your young-looking skin? She replied: Moisturizer, don’t forget to moisturize your skin all the time. Of course, this advice may not apply to women with oily skin type.
Healthy Skin Tips for Moms
I have a normal skin type. I need to moisturize my face day and night to prevent dryness. I apply different moisturizer, for daytime and nighttime. Daytime moisturizer normally contains SPF18 to protect our skin from the sun. Look for moisturizer with natural or herbal ingredients if you can. I find moisturizer with whitening effect can cause skin allergy to some people. I also moisturize the skin around my eyes, neck, hands and feet. My kids apply lotion to moisturize their hands and feet. Occasionally, I apply face mask. They’re different kinds of face masks to serve different purpose. If you like to use natural plant, Lemon is one of a kind. Lemon can bring benefits for skin such as cleanse and exfoliate your skin, lighten age spots, soften dry elbows, and relieve rough hands and sore feet.
Healthy Hair Tips for Moms
I had signs of greyish hair at the age of late twenties. I stopped perming my hair and dying my hair was not a solution. So, I looked for a solution to prevent greyish hair. As the skin needs moisturizer, so does the hair. If you’re under the sun, protect your hair by wearing a hat. Finally, I find ayurveda (alternative or herbal medicine practiced in India) herbal hair oil to moisturize my hair to keep them healthy. You will not get a sticky hair look because the hair oil is applied one hour or more before you wash your hair. I notice that greyish hair will not appear if my hair is healthy.
Nutrition for Healthy Skin
There are certain food and nutrition to keep your skin healthy. I’m particularly drinking green tea or apple cider vinegar mixed with honey. I’m also taking Evening Primrose Oil (EPO). EPO benefits women with PMS syndrome.
Yoga for Beautiful Skin
Yoga is a kind of physical and mental practice, originated in India. Yoga benefits health and mind and some practice it for therapy and cures of certain illness. I found an interesting article about Yoga for Beautiful skin, posted by Swati S, wellsphere.com
Want to take a shot at treating wrinkled skin, under eye circles and getting a glowing, beautiful skin the natural way? Yoga is known as a good way to get a healthy body. But yoga can also be used to work your way towards a more beautiful you. This simple, easy-to-do “asana” shows you how. Stand straight and move your feet apart, almost the same distance as your shoulders. Now cover your face with your palms and breathe, deep and fast. Do this 10 times. Next, hold up the two fingers nearest to the thumb. Take these two fingers of each hand and make small circles on entire your face, your eyes and your forehead. Continue to breathe deep and fast. Do this exercise for 5-10 minutes, start from the chin and slowly move to the forehead. Keep on taking deep breaths. Do this regularly to get a glowing, healthy skin.
I would like to share an interesting e-book about earth beauty resources for moms (free e-books download): Be an Earth Beauty, 12 pages Simply Beautiful-A Natural Mom’s No Fluff, Non-Toxic Get Gorgeous Guide. 06Learn To Study Smart with Memory Training Techniques
Posted By: vie on August 6, 2009 at 9:13 amWhen I went to school, I studied by rote learning. It taught students to memorize the facts. Therefore, when I was in high school, I chose physics as my major because my brain was too tired to memorize for subjects such as History, Geography.
Now, I watch my kids study. There is a comparison between the two siblings when they learnt to write at the first time:
My eldest, Andrea, went to pre-school who emphasizes on rote learning. She learnt to write and remember the word by writing it over and over again. She learnt to write the words through repetition.
My youngest, Aimee, went to pre-school who emphasizes on natural learning. The school warned us not to teach the kids to write the alphabet because they have their writing skills technique for kids. If we teach the kid, the kid may be confused with two different writing techniques, from school and from home. Aimee learnt to write the alphabet with ease. Later on, she learns to write the word by drawing the object next to her handwriting. This brings double benefits, she learns to draw and she learns the word by visualizing it into picture.
Tips for parents: Never teach the child to write early if he is not ready. Kids need to develop their fine motor skills before they learn to write. There are complaints that some kids have bad handwriting. It may be due to they don’t get the proper writing technique at early years.
From the example above, it proves that learning through visualization enables the kids to retain information in their brain permanently. Rote learning may give a quick result but the information retained in the brain will be for a short period.
We, moms, hope our kids to do well at school. We pushed them to study hard. What if we can show them the learning technique to make them study smart, not hard? I found “Students Winning Edge”, the resources for schooling kids to excel in their studies by using memory training techniques. It teaches students proven, easy, fun and guaranteed way to learn and retain information taught in school. it also teaches students the learning skill to build their vocabulary though the use of imagination, picture and association. Using this technique, the students will be able to remember and recall the meaning of the words with ease and build their vocabulary bank. This product also suits kids with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and elderly people. Please click the picture below for more information about the product and the testimonials. For a limited time only $ 27 (normal price: $197). Price is correct at the time of posting and there is a guarantee for the product.
